2019 has been a year full of ups and downs, reading-wise. In the beginning I set myself a goal of 80 books and didn’t reach it by 2. Some months I’ve been more active than others and the last three months of the year I fell into a reading slump so deep I was only able to listen to audiobooks and barley managed some comics. Work has been demanding and at some point I really didn’t want to look at a single book in my freetime.
I ended 2019 with quitting my job as a bookseller and I’ll write another post just about that soon. 🙂 In the meantime have some stats from 2019!
Books read in total in 2019: 78
English books: 51 ergo 27 German books
Manga and Comics: 19
Pages read in total: 22419
Looking back at the list of books I read I see that I managed to pick up more books that I really enjoyed than books I don’t remember fondly. Surprisingly, it’s not difficult to name a favourite of the year: Six of Crows ❤
If I had to name the worst book I read this year it’d be more of a battle because there is a handful that I read and reviewed for work I really, really didn’t like. Ah, let’s just list ’em all, in no particular order:
- Ordinary People by Diana Evans
- Milkman by Anna Burns
- Night Boat to Tangier by Kevin Barry
- What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
- Mein Herz, dein Kopf und ein Universum dazwischen by Katharina Wolf
I’ve rediscovered some genres I hadn’t read in some time and thus forgot I liked them. Yeah, it happens. A colleague at work got me into psychological thrillers again and I was sucked up by the stories. Dark, sinister and with a touch of the supernatural. My favourites in 2019:
All in all, 2019 was a good year for books and reading and I’m looking forward to 2020 and all its new books! ❤
