What’s it about?
Shailey loves bedtime because it means bedtime stories with her dad. That is, until he gets a new job and doesn’t always have time for bedtime stories anymore. So Shailey puts up a job notice looking for a storyteller.
What I think about it
Look at that cover and tell me you don’t love it. Isn’t this the loveliest cover ever? If I saw this at the shop I would buy it without hesitation. Books about books are the best books for readers in my opinion. I can picture little kids reading this book with their parents and getting to love books and reading.
Shailey is an adorable main character who knows what she wants. When it comes to bedtime storytelling only her dad knows how to do it right. I find it cute that the first thought that comes to Shailey’s mind is to hire a pro storyteller who can take over for her dad.
The people who turned up for the job interview were a pleasant surprise as they were all characters from fairy tales and children’s books. None of them could fill the position for the storyteller – Snow White brings her seven bodyguards, the Gingerbread Man steals the book and Cinderella puts sooty fingerprints over her books.
This is such a sweet story and I love how Shailey tries to find help in her books; books will always be there for you and I think it’s important to let children know that they can be your best friend. Obviously, it’s much better when there’s someone like Shailey’s dad who is the best storyteller the bookworld has ever seen. That’s why I found the ending super sweet and adorable because it’s just as important to take some time to read with your children.
The art style is so wonderful and fits the story perfectly. Warm colours, artsy and super cute!
Adorable and definitely recommendable to every child out there. Love the story, the illustrations and the message the book conveys. Would be the perfect book for a bedtime story.
